Celebrity claims to be “the youngest fleet sailing today.” Celebrity Horizon was placed in service in 1990 and carries 1,342 passengers while Celebrity Zenith was commissioned in 1992 and carries 1,366 passengers. Three ships were added at the end of the 1990’s and one of these, Celebrity Galaxy, has been named one of the world’s top cruise ships by Conde Nast Traveler. Four ships in Celebrity’s Millennium series have been added since 2000 and all are top-ranked large cruise ships that carry 2032 passengers each.
Celebrity also offers two expedition cruise ships that sail on adventures. The Kapitan Khlebnikov, a refitted Russian vessel, is a polar icebreaker that takes 108 passengers to the Arctic or Antarctica while the brand new Celebrity Xpedition tours the Galapagos Islands with a mere 94 passengers.
