I have heard that the beaches in the Bahamas are pink sand--I suppose from the shells that are found there. Are they really pink?

I've heard this, too. I looked online and found some information about Harbor island, which is supposed to have pink sand. In the pic, it looks SORTA pink... :p

This is something that I remember from our trip to the Bahamas. I hadn't even heard about it before we went! I remember the water being pure aqua and clear. But, we didn't see any pink sand.
You'll have to let us know if you find any!

I have always wondered this myself. I have never seen a pink sand beach. The pictures I have seen, some of the beaches do look like they may have a pinkish tint to them but then again the pictures were takin around sunset. I'm wondering if it has to do more with the setting of the sun making the beach appear to have pink sand?

Maybe the sand is just really light pink and the pictures at sunset bring it out more. But if anyone finds a beach with pink sand let us know where. I would love to see it.

I bet it's just a pearly opalescent creamy-pink color. How's that for a mouthful? :D Or maybe only certain islands in the Bahamas feature the pink sand?

I found some info. The Pink Sand Beach is a 3 mile stretch of beach. It is the famous "Three Mile Pink Sand Beach".
Apparently, the white sand of the beaches mix with the red coral of offshore reefs. This mix leaves the sand a wonderfully light pink color. It just looks light and fluffy to me!
From photos, it seems to be more of a light creamy pink. Looks lovely, though! It also seems there are lots of very ritzy resorts in the area!

Thanks Stephanie! Very nice of you to post that so now we all know where the pink sand beach is and how it got to be that way! Can't wait to see it!

Wow, cool! that makes perfect sense because the seashells really wouldn't be strongly colored enough to make a difference.

Thank you for the answer. I was really wondering why the sand was pink. And now I know. Thanks again.

Pink? Wow, I have seen white sandy beaches (which look spectacular next to crystal-blue water, by the way) but I have never heard of a pink beach!

Have you heard or seen the black sand beaches in Hawaii? They are beautiful. Made from the volcanic stone.

Thanks for sharing. I have never heard of this until I read this thread. It does look pinkish. Very unique and pleasant view and setting if one were to go there and enjoy it. I know if I ever have the time I am definitely going to visit this beach.

You guys are right! I've been all over the Bahamas. The beaches aren’t all pink!!!! If you book your trip thinking that, you’ll be disappointed. Some of them do have a pinkish tinge, IMO most notably Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island, an out island of the Bahamas. (It’s near Eleuthera.) Tip: The best time to make the pink color pop in your photographs is at sunrise or sunset, not midday.
