Holland America's private island in the Carribean is Half Moon Cay. For newcomers to Carribean lingo, cay is pronounced the same as key and is just another term for a small island.

Half Moon Cay has been rated as "Best Private Island" by Porthole Cruise magazine for several years. Activities include horseback riding on the beach, swimming and snorkeling in a 700-acre private lagoon, boat racing, nature trails and a full complement of regular beach activities.

What a great place to get away from it all during a warm islands cruise!

I read a review that said that access to the private island is by tender boat. Can anyone verify this for me?

I just looked Half Moon up online and it looks like THE dream destination.

Is there an entance fee to the private island? Some of the private islands and resort in our place can be rented on ou place. I just wonder if they also offer the place for only chosen people when rented it. Is it possible to rent the whole place at one time?

That is what we hear as well. We will bring back a report in November since we are Cruising on the Zuiderdam then!

Wow! If you cruise with Holland America is this a stop or a vacation within itself. I'm new to this and don't quite get all the ins and outs. I can't wait to look it up. Are there other islands like this?

We stopped at Half Moon Cay on our only cruise with Holland America this last November. We were not impressed. Yes, it was pretty white sand beaches but to us it was pretty boring. No local culture, no local people to talk to. It is exactly as it is marketed - a pretty white sand beach with lots of beach chairs. Remember, when you are on a cruise ship's "private beach" you are at the mercy of the cruise ship. Anything sold on the island is "cruise ship" pricing including alcohol. No cheap drinhs here!

I know this sounds incredible for my honeymoon. I keep getting fabulous ideas on this forum. I was very hesitant on a cruise. I'm almost sold!
