That was one of the best days of my life! Our huge 2,000 passenger cruise ship arrived at a tiny dock at an island I had never heard of before this cruise. We signed up for a shore excursion for a day-long beach party with no idea of what was in store for us.

We had a fun bus trip through narrow roads with a really great tour guide. After about 45 minutes through lush tropical scenery we arrived at a glorious beach with fanastic views of the clear ocean waters. Lots of lounge chairs everywhere.

We tried snorkeling and even took the submersible tour of the reef. The tropical fish were just on the other side of the glass and we managed to see a stingray. Even though we were really just inside the hull of the boat, it felt like we were deep underwater and up close to the reef.

What a glorious day just soaking up the sun and enjoying views like I had never seen before! If you have a chance, visit the truly clean and unspoiled beaches of Roatan.

There's more to do and see on Roatan than the private beach. It is such a quaint and undeveloped island that has recently been discovered by the cruise lines. A lot of the tourist infrastructure like roads and shopping hasn't arrived yet. This gives the island great charm for those of us who love the islands in a more pristine form.

This newly discovered island for tourists was opened to cruise lines as an alternative to other ports that cannot handle any more ships. It's a delightful island but you won't find the shopping, restaurants and bustle that you'll find elsewhere.

This is one port where you should definitely plan on taking a shore excursion or scheduling a leisurely day at the spa when rates are lower on a port day.

That sounds really cool. I'm going to look into that.

Good thing the ports could handle this cruise ships anymore which leads our cruises to stop by this beautiful roatan islands. Seems good to me.
