My best friend and I are both widows in our 70's. After that girl disappeared on an island somewhere we don't know if it's safe to take a cruise together just the two of us. We'd like to travel somewhere for a special trip before we're too old. What do you think?

You didn't tell us where you are from. If flying to Miami area or the coast of Texas or Louisiana is affordable for you, try just a four or five day cruise to the Caribbean on a cruise line that that usually attracts a more mature group of passengers. Try Royal Carribean, Norwegian, or Holland America.

You'll find out what a great time it is on a cruise ship! I especially love the special foods for three meals a day. You lock your valuables in the safe in your room. You'll soon discover that the ship is filled with ordinary people just like yourselves who are there to have a good time. The shows at night are amazing and just as good as major areas like Las Vegas. But all shows are suitable for the whole family.

If you're concerned about being alone in port, just sign up for a shore excursion. All the excursion companies are screened by the cruise line and you go sightseeing with a congenial group with a qualified tour guide.

With just some ordinary good sense, you and your friend should have a terrific time!

I've taken 2 trips on Royal Carribean to the islands. You'll just love the color of the water and all the great sights and shopping on the islands. Which ones? They're all great! You can't help but have a wonderful time.

But I disagree with cruisincousin - go for the 7-day cruise! Once you find out how relaxing it is and how much there is to do plus all the great food, you'll be glad that you're staying the extra time.

I agree with the others...you'll love the islands just like I do. Pick a 7-day trip and have the time of your life!

You might prefer the western Caribbean trip. The sights there are less crowded and commercial.
