Hi,
As a regular visitor to St. Lucia and having a St. Lucian brother-in-law, I thought I'd mention something that the girls who are planning to visit might be interested in knowing about.
As any single woman who's been will tell you, if you want a man, all you have to do is snap your fingers and one will be there, ready to 'date' you for the length of your stay -- most of them married!
The thing is, on St. Lucia, there are about 3 guys to every girl, so most will have a wife, a girlfriend on the side, and still enjoy playing around with a tourist or two during the season. While this may seem shocking to us, it's a normal part of life to them because the married women, being so vastly outnumbered by men, are actually grateful just to actually have a husband that they'll happily accept his 'infidelity'. If the men didn't 'put it around' a third of the islands women would have to go without.
Even when a man has a baby with his 'mistress', nobody bats an eyelid, least of all his wife. SHE's the one who he married - SHEs the one who has the right to his name and his money.
The reason I'm telling you this is because I think it's unfair that St. Lucian behaviour should be judged on our values. Cultures develop around what's best for them and in the case of St. Lucia, infidelity gives every woman the chance to experience a man and maybe have a family.
Of course, HIV is something that the St. Lucian guys need to give some serious thought to. Who knows what the tourists bring with them. I just hope they're sensible enough to use protection.
