On Feb. 10 2005, we were scheduled to leave BWI on Air Jamaica for a finial destination of St. Lucia in the West Indies. Our flight at 8:30 AM was canceled and we were rebooked for a Delta flight. Well, instead of one layover in Jamaica, we had 2. We flew to Atlanta, then San Juan (where we were delayed over 4 hours) and finally to St. Lucia. Because of these cancellations and delays it took us over 20 HOURS to reach St. Lucia. THIS IS AWFUL, we originally should have been on the island at 4:25 PM. Why were our flights cancelled? We were never given an explanation at BWI. This caused us to lose 2 days of our trip because of the late arrival and being so tired from traveling over 20 HOURS.
We arrived at Club St. Lucia after 11 PM to a very cold room (the air was on full blast) and only a sheet on the bed. When I asked the man who brought our luggage to our room for a few blankets, I was brought 3 sheets. It took us 2 days to get a blanket for the bed. For the first 2 nights of our HONEYMOON, I slept in bathrobe that the resort provided in the room.
We met with our Air Jamaica rep. on Feb. 11. In some aspects she was very helpful, she booked us on some sight seeing trips that we did enjoy. But we complained to her about our room and nothing happened. First of all, we booked a romance room in the Adult section (Hummingbird Village) of the resort that was supposed to have a refrigerator stocked with drinks and water. We NEVER got it. There was supposed to be a safe in the room. Well, there was but we were never told that we needed to put a $10 US deposit to get a key. When we tried to get a key, they did not have any. It took us 2 days to get one. Why on earth would a resort with 460 rooms not have a safe key for each room? There was not a remote control for the TV in the room. Again, we were never told that we needed a deposit to get a TV remote. Needless to say, they never had one for us to use. One day when to maid made up our room, she did not leave any towels in the bathroom and NEVER changed the sheets on the bed the entire week we were there.
The whole meal situation at Club St. Lucia is AWFUL. We received 4 coupons for evening meals for the 7 days we were there. ONLY FOUR!!!! Upon check in (which was 11 PM because our flights were cancelled and we had traveled over 20 HOURS) we were told that if we really liked one of the 4 restaurants to come back to reception and we could get another coupon for another night. Well, we had to stand in line to make reservations for these restaurants, WHY? this is supposed to be ALL INCLUSIVE. I went to reception to get another coupon for Tuesday (which we had no coupon for because we were going to use them all by then) and was told that they do not give out more coupons for restaurants, that I had to stand in line yet again and ask them if we could get in on the night we need to. On Sunday, I stood in line to make reservations for Tuesday (2/15/05). I was told that it we would have to come back and stand in line on Tuesday to get reservations for that night. We were scheduled to go on an all day trip to see the island on Tuesday so we could not do this. Tuesday night, we walked from one restaurant to another trying to get a table, and were turned down at each. We booked a room in the adult section of the resort in order to avoid all of the little screaming children while we were there. I did not want to eat in the International Grill (which is a buffet and you do not need reservations) for this purpose alone. We did end up going to the International Grill that night and HATED it. During an ALL INCLUSIVE trip, that we booked through Air Jamaica, we did not like the fact that we had to spend our precious time making reservations, being turned down for a table, and the bad service we received. The food was mediocre at best and the service by the wait staff needs help.
On Friday, (2/11/05) it rained. We come back to our room and there is a flood in the room where the rain water had come in under the door. The door had at least a 1/2 inch gap at the bottom. Some of my clothes got wet. When I asked about laundry service and complained about the flood I was told that at "Club St. Lucia there will be water coming in under the door if it rains and I would have to pay for laundry service for my WET clothes." We were NOT told that there would be a flood in our room when it rained. Due to the gap at the bottom of the door, our room was infested with mosquitoes. We were bitten VERY BADLY all over. The bathroom was disgusting. There was mold all over the bathroom. The shower had NO water pressure unless you wanted a cold shower. Bugs all over the place. At one point there was a dead spider on the edge of the tub for 3 days. I don't think they even cleaned the bathroom.
In everything we read about Club St. Lucia, it said that there would be a shuttle service to take people around the resort. We never saw a shuttle that would pick us up while we were there. In order to get a shuttle, you had to go to reception and ask for one to take you to your room. And they acted like it was such an inconvience that you hated to ask.
Water sport were supposed to be included. Well, for the 460 rooms at Club St. Lucia, they only had 5 snorkel masks to use. People are only supposed to sign them out for 2 hours at a time. One day we wanted to snorkel, we waited 6 HOURS for a mask. And still only got one mask for the two of us. We had to put a $20 US deposit on each beach towel. Again, we were never told this. Why should we have to put a $20 US deposit on each towel? The towels were nothing to write home about. They were thread bare and were coming apart. If we would have been told about all of these deposits we had to make, we would not have had to go back to our room (which was on the other end of the resort, far away) to get money. ALL INCLUSIVE SHOULD BE ALL INCLUSIVE!!
The resort itself is very run down and needs allot of repairs. The paint is peeling, the sidewalks are cracks, we were afraid of falling. The rooms need allot of help. The hot tub in the adult only section of the pools was about the temperature of the ocean, really the ocean was warmer. There were 3 hot tubs in the Hummingbird Village (the adult only section of rooms), two of which were empty and the third was filled, but only about 50 degrees. The sewage smell was so bad, THANK GOD our room was on the other end of the resort.
They did handle our wedding very well. BUT, that is the only thing they did well. The staff at Wedding Bells was excellent and very helpful. On the day of our wedding (2/16/05) I paid to have my hair and makeup done at the beauty salon at the resort. They did a very good job and I was pleased. BUT, when I went to reception to ask for a shuttle to my room, it took over 20 minutes for the shuttle to get there. This was the hottest day while we were there and I was not going to have to walk up those hills to the other end of the resort, sweating the whole time, in order to get dressed for MY WEDDING!!
This had already turned into the worst trip we have ever been on. Then we had to fly home. When we got the big airport on St. Lucia to fly home, SURPRISE, our Air Jamaica flight was cancelled. No one bothered to call us at Club St. Lucia and tell us. We were rebooked on American Airlines. We were supposed to fly at 2:45 PM to Jamaica for a one hour layover and be in BWI by 9 PM. WE WERE NOT. We had to wait an hour more for the new flight. We flew American Airlines to Miami, where due to customs we made our flight to BWI with 2 minutes to spare. We did not reach BWI till after 11 PM. It is very doubtful that we will fly or book another trip through Air Jamaica. Our Honeymoon was ruined due to the bad service from Air Jamaica and Club St. Lucia. I think you at Air Jamaica have Club St. Lucia rated as 3 stars, IT SHOULD ONLY BE 1 STAR AT BEST.
We paid over $2600 US for this trip. I cannot believe the bad experience we had. We will never have the memories of our honeymoon and wedding we thought we would have.
We will not recommend Air Jamaica or Club St. Lucia to any of our friends. And I plan to tell our travel agent at AAA about this trip so she will not recommend Air Jamaica or Club St. Lucia to her customers.
