Water Sports
Around the island there is more than enough in the way of water sports to go around. Boating is highly popular in the area. Some of the largest and most expensive boats can be found around the island and many times throughout the year there are competitions for boating from sailing to speed. Many of the worlds most prolific boat makers make Crete their home and the industry is thriving. Fishing is largely based on industry but there is also a thriving sport fishing industry that revolves around Crete. Most of the beaches feature a fishing pier for the land based hobbyist. Some of the world’s largest species of fish inhabit the waters around Crete and make fishing more than enjoyable. The charter boats run throughout the week and take you to some of the most exotic locales to find the best in fishing. Expect to pay a high fee for the charter but you can also expect some world class sport as well.
Surfing is not particularly popular on Crete. There is a movement to bring the sport into the limelight but little has done any good so far. There is a thriving community of independent surfers that one can join as well, but the number of spots to take part in the sport is limited.
Island Diversity
Crete is one of the most culturally diverse islands in the entire world. Because history of the island its self, there is a large mixture of people, and each civilization that once occupied the island left something behind. Many people can trace their roots back to the earliest occupation of cultures on the island. This is all coupled with the fact that Crete is probably the most popular area for the rich and famous to make their home. Millionaires from around the world make their home here and more are buying in all the time. Industry is booming on Crete and is attracting people from all over the world.

For those that want something more than the water sports there is more than enough to do. The culture of the many areas are put on display by the natives for all to see. Then there are the many museums that one can tour for art and history all over the island. Most of the museums look to the rich history of the island for their themes and most often you can find exhibits from thousands of years past.
