Water Sports
Capri is the typical tropical area for water sports. Surfing is big around the island because the location provides some prime waves for the surfing enthusiasts. The waters surrounding the island are known to be some of the safest of all tropical locations as there are very few dangerous sea creatures that like the area. Most of the hotels on the island give a free surf report for the tourists to know when the waves are at their peak. Fishing is also highly popular. The island is full of charter boat rentals where visitors can find a day of excellent fishing and some trophy worthy catches along the way. Expect to pay a fair amount for the charter but it is well worth the price. Swimming in the life guard protected areas is wonderful all year round. The water is inviting and the beaches white and sandy. Most of the hotels offer direct access to the beaches in the area but there are some who have paid access. The fee is nominal and allows all day access.
Island Diversity
The Capri island is not really diverse in the population. Most of the year round residents are Italian and work in some capacity of the tourism trade on the island. There is little in the way of industry on Capri so most jobs are directly related to the tourist trade in one way or another. There are a few non-Italian residents that occupy the island, most of which are wealthy plants from other areas. Real estate is pricey and hard to find which keeps most people away from the area when looking for a full time residence.
Activities
Most of the activities on the Capri island are related to the water. There are some cultural activities, including historical sight seeing tours that take you to the many areas where actual Roman Empire era buildings are still standing.
