Diving is the most popular water sport on Little Cayman. The famous Bloody Bay Wall is dive that starts at eighteen feet and plunges to 1,200 feet. This dive has been ranked one of the world’s top wall dives. Divers can explore coral gardens, trees, and the multitudes of tropical fish that inhabit them. Divers will often see a green sea turtle swim by. Jackson’s Bight is another famous dive location off the Island. Because sea coral is so fragile and grows excruciatingly slow, divers need to take care to not touch the coral in any way.

Little Cayman is also home to many great snorkeling sites! The water is so clear you can see down to 200 feet, so snorkeling will give you a stunning view of the underwater paradise surrounding the island. On the east end of Little Cayman you will find Point of Sand, a great snorkeling destination.

Little Cayman has less than 200 inhabitants. The island was only permanently settled in the 1800s. Little Cayman’s population exported coconuts, rope, and phosphate ore. Christopher Columbus was the first to record seeing the island. During his final voyage, strong winds threw him off course and he accidentally discovered the Cayman Islands. In the 17th century, turtle fishermen set up temporary settlements on the island, but they left before the 18th century. The island was left vacant until the 1800s.

Nature lovers flock to Little Cayman to observe the island’s unique landscape and animal life. Forty percent of the island is wetlands, lagoons, and ponds. Raised platform give visitors a beautiful view of these places. The National Trust Booby Pond Nature Reserve is home to the largest population of red-footed booby birds in the Caribbean. The endangered Turks and Caicos rock iguana also calls Little Cayman home.

Perhaps the greatest allure of Little Cayman is the chance to really get away and relax. The island is dotted with hammocks, where visitors can rest and relax. There are relatively few guests on the island from day to day, so crowds are not a problem. Swim in the clear ocean, and enjoy the powder soft sand of the island’s beaches. Or try your luck exploring for buried pirate treasure. Whatever you choose to do, Little Cayman is a location that will give you the chance to rest and relax.
