Gustav Devastates Local Economy In the Caribbean Islands
Strong winds going at 90miles per hour, and accompanied by heavy rain pours is what the latest Hurricane, Gustav, brought with him late last week; hitting the Caribbean Islands where it hurts the most, their food crops.
The locals of the islands were still recovering from another storm that hit the region a few weeks ago, but the rising water level brought about by the pouring of Hurricane Gustav is now also threatening the remaining banana, beans, and vegetable crops. This aggravates the rising concern of the people of the stricken areas, who are already struggling to cope with the increasing cost of living. Aside from losing their source of income for the next season, less food supply with the same amount of demand would cause prices to go up further.
Hundreds of citizens of Haiti, who were badly hit by Hurricane Gustav, were forced to leave their homes and seek refuge elsewhere. They were more concerned about how they can cope with the economy, than losing their houses. The cost of rebuilding their homes is nothing as compared to the looming future they have to face with nothing to look forward to but rising expenses.
