Disney Magic Gets a Face Lift

When you wish upon a star, it makes no difference who you are. But it does make a huge difference where you want to go and how you want to get there, that is. So why not take a magic carpet ride on the waters (in a manner of speaking) and book a cruise with the whole family aboard the Disney Magic Cruise?

The Disney Magic Cruise, which was conceptualized and launched in the mid to late 90s, is now getting a series of face-lifts! The aim is to upgrade the 2,700-passenger ship’s facilities before dry-docking in September of 2008, and the changes will surely make the kids and the kids-at-heart as happy as Pluto with a heap of doggy chews. Some of the stuff passengers can look forward to when they set foot in this unique vessel includes a Neverland-themed (not to be confused with the controversial pop singer’s ranch!) play area for kids aged three to seven called the Oceaneer Club. For kids aged eight to twelve, meanwhile, Disney Magic Cruise is putting up an interactive laboratory for them to enjoy. Registration for both promises to be more efficient with a brand spanking-new technology called Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Even the tiniest kids can check in and out of the clubs via issued wristbands that have sensors they can simply tap whenever they want to take advantage of either club.

Speaking of the tiniest kids, there’s lots of fun new stuff to be expected expressly for their enjoyment in the new additions that Disney Magic is incorporating in its already fun cruises. Mickey’s Splash Zone is one of them. It’s a water playground for toddlers that’s directly inspired by the Mickey Mouse special “Fantasia’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice” bit. It’s a 385 square feet annexation to the existing Mickey Pool, and boasts of fun-shaped interactive fountains (moons and stars, like on Mickey’s sorcerer hat in the animation version), splash zones to get all wet in, and basic amenities for toddlers who aren’t even toilet-trained yet to fully enjoy.

That’s not to say all these great face-lifts and additional amenities are purely for kids to partake of, because adults who’ve grown to love the kind of magic Disney weaves will marvel at the Quiet Cove, a pool retreat that’s tailor-made for the child-at-heart who still needs some quiet time with a cup of fresh-brewed coffee with other adults after a dip in the pool. The Cove Cafe is undergoing some improvements in this light, with more comfy, squashy chairs and more sophisticated, plush interiors. Likewise, the pool area will be equipped with cascading waterfalls from a couple of hot tubs, and the teak deck with inviting lounge chairs, again lined with plush.

Meanwhile, the guest staterooms will be swathed in high technology such as only Disney Magic passengers deserve. Flat-screen LCD television sets that are twenty-two inches in dimension will be mounted and made to swivel in practically any direction within the room for maximum convenience and viewing pleasure.

Disney Magic Cruise is currently pulling out all the stops like Aladdin uncorking the genie from imprisonment to make all your high seas adventures come true!
