In 2006, Costa Cruises decided that they still need another one to add to their illustrious fleet of luxurious cruise ship that is why they sought Fincantieri Maritimo to construct another floating work of art. Soon, Costa Luminosa will conquer the sea by April of 2009, and it is estimated to come with a hefty price tag of USD550 million.

The remarkable fleet (including all the other new ships like Costa Luminosa) of Costa Cruise can accommodate at double-occupancy, an astonishing 30,800 passengers. The market for cruise travel has indeed risen over the decades, especially now that advance technology assures passengers of a safe, worry-free voyage.

Not desiring to be a mere copy or poor imitation of other Costa ships, Luminosa will boast of features and designs that are certainly fresh and will be a delightful feasts for the eyes. Swimming time at the pools will never be the same again as more roofing will be provided for a “shadier” swimming experience and more protection for the sun’s harmful UV rays. Those whose bodies crave for the pleasurable experience brought by massage and other body treatments should expect for even more therapeutic treatments as Costa Luminosa’s spa center will be more worth bragging about. For golf enthusiasts, prepare for the ship’s golf stimulator. Imagine making that winning swing while at the middle of the sea!

With a length of 292 meters, Costa Luminosa can accommodate up to 2,260 passengers. These passengers will be distributed in the ship’s 1,130 cabins to which a total of 772 have their own provided balconies. These figures is another testimony to the historic achievement of sorts for Costa Luminosa since among the fleet of Costa Cruises, at 68% it holds the highest percentage of cabin which have balconies. The guests are all sure to have the time of their life since Costa Luminosa will ensure that only the best itineraries and the most scenic of attractions will be covered by the ship’s voyages.

The Samsara Spa is the latest feature among Costa Cruise’s ships, and Luminosa will have the pride to be one of the ships that will serve as a fitting venue for this spa that is reputed to be the largest of its kind at sea. Just imagine, Samsara Spa will cover an amazingly spacious area of 23,000 ft².

Among other interesting and exciting add-ons to Luminosa are the followiong:

  • A high-tech car driving simulator that will the give the rider no less then the Grand Pix experience!
  • A swimming pool area where a giant movie screen can be found for a more relaxing and entertaining time at the pool, plus a mangrodome that can be retracted during those superbly hot afternoons or those unexpected drizzles and heavy rains. No one would want to be disturbed by the time they spent on the pool.

As guests find their way to the atrium, lo and behold! The bronze art work that will further render an impressive visual appeal is being sculpted by prominent artist, Fernando Botero and is called, “Reclining Woman 2004.” Once completed, this sculpture that will stand at 152 cm in height and will weigh at 910 kilogram will be installed at the said atrium of the ship. Esteemed Carnival Cruise ship architect, Joe Farcus will be the brain behind the general design and make up of Costa Luminosa, and will make it sure that the ship will indeed shine out at its brightest every moment it spends cruising the sea.
