Nevis

Abacos

Nevis is nestled in the wonderfully crystal waters of the Caribbean and dubbed the “Queen of the Caribees”, just a few hundred miles south of Puerto Rico and a few miles west of Antigua. Life here is simple and slower than the larger islands that surround it. From fishing to shopping to a day at the spa, you are sure to enjoy your vacation here on Nevis. The flora and fauna here cannot be found anywhere else in the world, and the vervet monkeys chattering in the trees all around you will make you feel as if you are truly on the tropical vacation of a lifetime! Although Nevis is only 36-square miles, there is so much that makes up this small island that you will have a hard time leaving when it comes time to go home.

Water Sports
While you are vacationing on Nevis, there are many different water sports for you to enjoy. Swimming in the warm Caribbean waters is always a favorite, but so are diving and snorkeling around the island as well. There are many shipwrecks in the shallower waters around the island that you can explore until your heart’s content. You can find many different shops here that offer lessons on diving and snorkeling if you are a beginner. There are also many different tour guides who offer everything from deep sea fishing tours to whale watching outings, so be sure to check around to see the times and prices of these tours while you’re here.

Island Diversity
Nevis was spotted by Christopher Columbus in the early 1490’s, but the Caribbean Amerindians had already settled the island and had been living here for over 2,000 years. While Nevis is one of the smaller of the Caribbean islands, with only 10,000 locals, the culture and traditions of Nevis are not something to be missed. Nevis was home to many plantations long ago, and you can still tour these beautiful homes and grounds while here to learn a bit of the history of the sugar trade that thrived on Nevis. There are so many different historical sites around Nevis that both the United States and Great Britain host archaeological tours here yearly.

Activities
There are so many different activities on Nevis that it could make your head spin! You can take tours of the rainforest, old sugar plantations, Amerindian sites, and ocean tours. There are also museums, botanical gardens, and art galleries for you to enjoy. Some tour guides around the island offer archaeological tours of different ancient sites for you to try your hand at being the next “Indiana Jones” while learning a little more about the history of the island. You can also take a hike to the top of Nevis Peak or walk the beaches at dusk. Monkey Business on Nevis

Monkey Business on Nevis

We stayed for two weeks right across from Oualie Beach, which is beautiful, and one of the nicest on the island.
One of our main objectives was to see [...]
