The Outer Banks are made up of over a 100 mile long string of beautiful beaches and narrow barrier islands. They make up the northern half of the state of North Carolina’s Atlantic coastline. They separate the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds from the Atlantic Ocean. Because of the many number of sunken ships offshore, this area is often referred to as the Graveyard of the Atlantic. This was the site of the Wright brother’s first flight. The Wright Brothers National Monument now sits at Kill Devil Hills to commemorate that important event. The Outer Banks are a major vacation destination for tourists since it is known for temperate weather and wide expanses of open beachfront.
One great place to stay while vacationing at the Outer Banks is the Sanderling Resort Spa and Conference. This resort is located close to the village of Duck and takes up a 12 acre parcel of land that meets both the Atlantic Ocean and the Currituck Sound. The Sanderling will give each of its guests a unique natural environment so that they can relax and unwind from their normal lives. This is a very intimate retreat that houses 88 luxury guest rooms and suites in three inns, four Station Bay villas that have three and four bedroom accommodations, two restaurants, a lounge, a full service spa and fitness center, and an IACC-certified conference center. They are designed to appeal to adults.
The Sanderling recently went under a complete multi-million dollar refurbishment and now encompasses three inns, The Main Inn, The North Inn, and The South Inn and five Oceanside Villas. They will provide you with luxurious accommodations in North Carolina. Each two story building is distinctive in its own right and is decorated with a rare collection of fine wildlife art and sculptures. Each building offers lodging with private porches, most of which face the Atlantic Ocean or the Currituck Sound. All of the rooms in The Sanderling feature plush robes and fine personal care products. The resort is now glad to be able to offer their guests wireless high speed internet service in their main lobby.
The Main Inn opened its doors in 1985 its classic architecture sets the tone for all of the other buildings on the property. The gorgeous Grand Gallery features a warm natural wood finish, a sitting room with a fireplace for you to relax, and panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Currituck Sound. Guest rooms will only accommodate two guests at a time. The North Inn opened in 1988 and is adjacent to the swim spa. Its accommodations will provide you with first-floor views of a landscaped waterfall or the scenic coastal dunes. The second floor offers you views of the Atlantic Ocean or landscaped views on the sound side. All of the rooms have wet bars, refrigerators, and coffee makers.
