Located right on the Great Barrier Reef, Heron Island resort is one of the best places in the world for diving excursions. Coral Grotto is a popular site for nature enthusiasts. Also known as Turtle Grotto, it is easy to see why. Everywhere you look you will find turtles of some variety. As shallow as 8 meters or as deep as 18, this is a unique opportunity for novice and experienced divers to interact with these gentle creatures.

For the more experienced diver looking for a challenge, there are many areas where adventure diving is the flavor of the day. Just south of the island is a large ribbon reef with a huge wall known as Lamont Wall. Here you can dive to 30 meters, while you explore the unusual coral formations.

Another exciting dive for the seasoned diver is the North Reef. The depth is only 16 meters, but it is the home to the stunning and majestic Mantas. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to swim with these incredible creatures; an opportunity not to be missed.

An experience that every diver must try at least once, is night diving, and there are certainly opportunities to do so on Heron Island. You will experience the ocean as you never have before and observe creatures that have never even seen the sun. Already dark and mysterious, the undersea world is even more thrilling at night.
