Bookmark and Share

Located Northeast of Sprat Point, Beef Island, immediately South of Scrub and East of Great Camanoe. Marina cay is an eight acre island fringed with white sugar sand, and is surrounded by an aquamarine tepid lagoon. The coral reef of the lagoon is home to many colorful species of fish and various native marine life.

This is a perfect location for snorkelers and divers. Marina Island is home to the renowned Pusser’s Restaurant, which specializes in seafood and Caribbean cuisine. This history of habitation on the island began during the times of The Great Depression. Robb and Rodie White first came to the island in the 1930’s and began constructing a house in the year 1937 after being newly married for about four months.

Robb White was a struggling author and came to the island to write many novels, few of which became films. The book Two on the Isle became a movie, mostly shot on the island of Marina Cay, and starred Sidney Poitier. Robb White is best known for writing Torpedo Run which was later turned into the famous movie known as Torpedo Alley. Pusser’s restaurant features photographs of the Whites, fully restored and telling of the history of the island. The summit still stands on the island and has been fully restored to its original condition.

When the White’s came to the island, it was completely uninhabited so they had to conquered many challenges during the construction process of their home. One challenge was rendering fresh water. The White’s had intended to construct a cistern under ground, but struck solid rock. They changed construction plans, and created their water capturing and storage system above ground. The summit stands two stories tall, with the master bedroom occupying most of the second story located above the cistern. The White’s house currently functions as a reading room and book exchange. Pusser’s restaurant is a main attraction of the island and features fresh seafood dishes, traditional menu items, and local flair. Pusser’s is a brand named Caribbean rum and is featured in most of the specialty drinks served in the restaurant.

There is an inn on the island and is part of the Pusser’s restaurant. Being that there is a constant feed of fresh, cool and clean air from the trade winds, there is no need for air conditioning. Villas of the inn allow for breath taking views of the gorgeous reef and main channel below. The Inn also features double occupancy rooms, which are located on the East side of the island. Each double occupancy room features a refrigerator and balcony. The inn also features suites with private balconies, a private bedroom and a private bathroom. Weddings can be held at Marina Cay with the romantic options of having the ceremony surrounded in the tropical flowers that cover the island, exchanging vows at the historic summit, or at the water’s edge overlooking the reef and the Sir Francis Drake Channel.

Receptions can be held in the White’s house/historic summit of Marina Cay where there is an outdoor bar and various patios that can accommodate up to 90 guests. Marina Cay features windsurfing, kayaking, surfing, small boat sailing, power boat excursions of the island, private charters, saltwater fly fishing, scuba diving, Sage Mountain National Park & Rain Forest, J.R. O’Neal Botanical Gardens, shopping visits to Road Town, and a tour of Tortola Island.
