Dining With The Captain
Start Booking Your Dream Cruise
Dining at the Captain's table is not something that comes automatically with booking the most expensive suite aboard the ship. Certainly, a number of “penthouse” guests will find their way to this most prized dinner seating, but so will an equal number of guests from inside staterooms, family suites, and other accommodations.
Because he is a busy man, with a great deal of responsibility, the Captain does not issue these dinner invitations himself. Generally speaking, either a cruise hostess, or perhaps a captain of the dining room will be on the lookout for guests who are sociable, good conversationalists, and have mixed backgrounds for work, hobbies, etc. This makes for an atmosphere at the table where conversation can be kept flowing, simply by turning to the next guest.
Because you have been seen in the pool with Mickey Mouse water wings, or at the rail with a green complexion, will not eliminate you from being eligible for an invitation. Almost any guest who is pleasant, interesting, and interested in the whole adventure, may be part of that inner circle, for one night. But do ask the maitre d' for advice on dress, if it is not stated on the invitation. This isn't the place for Bermuda shorts.
