A United States Territory located in the southern Pacific Ocean, American Samoa is part of the Samoan Island chain. The chain under the United States includes such islands as Cook Island, and is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the Pacific realm. With it’s beautiful, dark-haired and dark-skinned natives, American Samoa is a unique place full of culture and history, longing to be discovered.

Water Sports
Since American Samoa is located in the warm Pacific, water sports are a main way to have fun and relax here. Surfing is one of the local favorites, along with snorkeling and diving, and you are sure to find plenty of schools to teach you and shops to buy anything you need for either sport. But, these aren’t the only water sports here that you can enjoy, some others include: deep sea fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, and boat rentals. Island Diversity
American Samoa is believed to have been inhabited by native Samoans as early as 1000 BC, but it was not discovered by European sailors until the late 18th century. After it’s discovery, international fights over the islands began with the United States and Germany over what is now American Samoa. Finally, in 1899, the Treaty of Berlin was signed, which split the Samoan Islands into the different groups that we know today. American Samoa and some of the surrounding islands were used as Naval bases for the U.S. There is very rich native culture here still, and you can experience it as soon as you step off the plane. Be sure to visit some of the historical sites around the island, as well as some of the ancient sacred Samoan sites.

Activities
Water sports aren’t the only things to do here. With it wide variety of resorts and markets, you can always find great shopping here, from local crafts to upscale shops. You can also find some wonderful spas if you are in the mood for a good spa treatment, complete with native flower petals and caring staff.
